Formaldehyde Hidden in Wood Panels & Its Removal Methods
Formaldehyde, a harmful component, is hidden in the interlayers of wood panels. For every 1-degree Celsius increase in room temperature, the concentration of formaldehyde released into the air rises. Long-term exposure to such an environment causes fatal damage to the human body. However, worryingly, the phenomenon of excessive formaldehyde is highly prevalent in most regions of China.
8 Methods to Remove Residual Formaldehyde from Home Renovation
1. Cool Water + Vinegar Method
Fill a container with cool water, add an appropriate amount of vinegar, place it in a well-ventilated room, and open the doors of furniture. This method not only evaporates a moderate amount of moisture to protect the paint on the ceiling but also absorbs and eliminates residual odors.
2. Pineapple Deodorization Method
Place several pineapples in each room (more for larger rooms). As a coarse-fiber fruit, pineapples can not only absorb paint fumes but also emit a fresh pineapple scent, accelerating the removal of odors—achieving a dual benefit.
3. Citric Acid Cotton Ball Method
To quickly eliminate residual paint odors, soak cotton balls in citric acid and hang them indoors and inside wooden furniture.
4. High-Tech Odor-Removing Cleaners
You can purchase high-tech odor-removing cleaners from the market, which can eliminate harmful gases emitted by newly renovated houses and new furniture. According to relevant sources, these cleaners are mostly imported products. They use ammonia compounds to react chemically with harmful substances, thereby achieving odor removal and cleaning effects. In a newly renovated room, pour this cleaner into plates, place the plates in each room, and combine it with the wiping and deodorizing method. After several consecutive days, the unpleasant odors can be effectively removed.
5. Orange Peel & Lemon Peel Method
Placing items such as orange peels and lemon peels in the room is also an effective deodorization method, though it will not take effect quickly.
6. Salt Water & Tea Wiping Method
Place two basins of salt water indoors, and the paint odor will be eliminated quickly. If the paint odor comes from wooden furniture, wipe the furniture several times with tea water—this will also speed up the removal of the paint odor.
7. Potted Plants Purification Method
The most cost-effective and home-beautifying method is undoubtedly placing suitable flowers and plants at home. Plants that can absorb formaldehyde include cacti, spider plants, gerberas (also known as African daisies), reeds, English ivy, iron trees, chrysanthemums, etc.
8. Formaldehyde Traps
Currently, formaldehyde traps available on the market can penetrate the interior of artificial wood panels, actively adsorb, capture, and react with free formaldehyde molecules. Once the reaction forms non-toxic macromolecular compounds, they will never decompose—thus achieving the goal of quickly and effectively eliminating formaldehyde.
