The Difference Between Color Paste and Color Concentrate

 DOWNLOAD

The pigment used in emulsion paint is called color paste—a type of pigment specifically designed for tinting water-based paints (emulsion paints).
The pigment used in wood paint is called color concentrate—a type of pigment specifically designed for tinting oil-based paints (wood paints).
There are many varieties of pigments, each with distinct functions and roles. When formulating coatings, it is necessary to select appropriate pigments based on the required performance characteristics. Mixing or misusing pigments is strictly prohibited!
Classification of PigmentsPigments can be categorized in the following ways:
1.By source: They are divided into two types—natural pigments and synthetic pigments.
2.By chemical composition: They are classified into inorganic pigments and organic pigments. Organic pigments have bright colors but are prone to fading; inorganic pigments are less bright in color but have good fade resistance.
3.By function in coatings: They can be divided into coloring pigments, extender pigments, anti-rust pigments, and special-effect pigments. Each category includes numerous varieties.
Application of Pigments in Coatings in the early days of coatings, natural inorganic pigments were widely used. Modern coatings now extensively utilize synthetic pigments—among which organic pigments are constantly developing, but inorganic pigments still remain the primary choice.
Pigments are a key component of pigmented paints. They impart color to the paint film and enable the film to cover the surface of the coated object to a certain extent, thereby fulfilling the film’s decorative and protective functions. Pigments can also enhance the mechanical properties and durability of the paint film. Some pigments can even provide specific functions to the film, such as corrosion resistance, electrical conductivity, and flame retardancy.
Pigments are generally fine powdery colored substances. When uniformly dispersed in a film-forming substance, its solution, or its dispersion, a pigmented paint is formed. After the paint film is formed, the pigments are evenly distributed within it. Therefore, the film of a pigmented paint is essentially a solid-solid dispersion of pigments and film-forming substances.
